Choosing winter sleeping bags can be a pain! Synthetic can be big, bulky & heavy and down bags are just useless if they get wet so you kind of really have to think about what you’re using them for and decide on that. I needed a winter sleeping bag that would keep me really warm and not have to worry about damp, condensation or getting a little wet so went synthetic. I chose this mainly because of the price. At the time of buying it was on offer at £50 instead of £80.
This is a very thick bulky sleeping bag. It is a 4 season (which means it is a winter sleeping bag because there is no way I would use this in summer) bag with ratings of 0c down to -30c. No way I would use it at -30c but certainly for UK winters it is great. The bag is synthetic meaning you don’t have to worry about the material getting damp / wet and not insulating you properly. With a down bag, as soon as the down gets wet, it is useless until dried out and re-puffed. Synthetic you don’t have to worry about that. This will keep you warm even when damp which is ideal.
You can buy the bag with either left or right sided zips so depending on your tent / hammock setups you can match with your bag which is really handy. The bag has a good neck baffle which you can tighten to stop heat escaping and velcro straps on this too. One thing I really liked was the velcro here can be strapped to itself when you’re not using the neck baffle so you don’t have velcro rubbing up against you uncomfortably all night like a lot of other sleeping bags. The same with the zip velcro.
For really cold nights I would recommend a liner to use with the bag as I am not convinced it would be any good in negative degree weather, but, I haven’t tested this yet so not 100% sure.
Overall, happy with this. Price wise it is a great winter bag, just be prepared to lug around a large sleeping bag with you I guess!
