GoPro Hero 9

Originally I was filming on just my phone (iPhone 16 Pro Max) which was great but not perfect. I was missing angles and shots that I should have got and just generally underselling myself as a creator. I decided to get a GoPro as they were supposed to be great for action shots, good quality etc.

At the time of writing this I have used it on two videos, first was a food review in great winter weather (no snow, sunny day etc) and filming was spot on. Second video was a camp… I went prepared with 3 batteries and managed about 5 minutes worth of filming in total. The GoPro it seems does not do too well in the cold.

I spent a bit of time looking into issues with cold, which I knew would be an issue anyway (lithium ion batteries suck in cold conditions) but being an “action camera” which literally advertises it’s use with snowboarding and skiing I was expecting a bit more out of it.

I am going to try again with the camera, keeping batteries inside pockets when not in use and perhaps sticking a hot hands in there as well to keep the batteries warm. Really though, it shouldn’t be this difficult should it?

Quality wise, so far it seems ok, video quality is on par with the iphone even though this is an older gopro, sound quality is probably a bit better as it does a better job of filtering out background noise and wind etc as well. The only thing letting it down is the battery issue.
