I was after a small lightweight burner / stove I could use while backpacking / camping so I didn’t have to lug around gas or rely on chopping wood etc to cook or make hot drinks etc. I was looking at Trangia, but frankly, they’re a bit expensive when first starting out as you have to buy all the extra bits to go with it. I saw this on Amazon, at the time I think it was something like £12.
Pretty much the same sort of concept as the Trangia, mini spirit burner can thing but this has the base / pan supports all with it as standard so went ahead and got it.
Used this a few times now and, while it obviously isn’t as quick as gas, this does the job well! The stove holds a good amount of fuel so you don’t have to keep topping it up. The struts to support pans etc are solid and keep a good distance from the burner so the fire can breathe. The top handle does two jobs, firstly allows you to safely extinguish the fire and secondly you can open it up slightly and put on the fire to lower the intensity of the flame which allows you to simmer instead of boiling etc. Boils 100ml of water in 3(ish) minutes so not too bad.
Obviously if you’re a hardcore Trangia fan, which people seem to be, you probably won’t be impressed with this, but for the money, size etc this is a great starter spirit burner and couldn’t recommend it enough.
